First body pulling attempt

Postby Artur Fischer » Mon Aug 15, 2016 4:37 pm

Hi,

just made my first body pulling attempt, used:
-1mm polycarbonate sheet
-a plaster model made from a Micro T bosdy
-vaccun cleaner
-wife´s oven
-pair of gloves

And what a got:

and what I´ve learn.
-first I have to pre dry the polycarbonate or small bubbles can appear.
-a hot air blower could help for the detailling
-I have to fight webbing
-the plaster model I made is too weak

Should I paint the model to make it stronger? what paint?
Could I use another material? Clay? resin?
What could I aplly on the model to help desmolding it?

Any advise about how to improve it is welcome.

thanks!

Hi Artur. Nice first attempt at making a body.

I'm afraid I won't be much help. If the plaster cracked maybe it wasn't mixed properly (for your climate), dried too quickly or too slowly or the humidity affected it. I'm sure there are tutorials online and youtube vids that would know better than me.

I didn't look through them but here are a couple of people making bodies.

You may need some sort of mold release to easily remove the body from the form.

Made another try:
Used a smaller box to reduce the webbing, predried the sheet and fixed the plaster model

problem: still webbing and found some flaws on the model

Made another one:
made another box smaller than the previus to reduce webbing and sanded the model

problem: didn´t predried enough the webbind reduced but still there.

now I´m going to make the third box and make some small holes through the model to help the detailing on the top part.

Made the paint job.

Is hard to cut the body cause I used a too thick policarbonate. but the body is going to be bulletproof.

The body looks really good Artur.

What made the little bubbles? I assumed the paint would make them disappear. They actually don't look bad though.

the little bubbles happened because I didn´t pre dried the policarbonate.
They are in the outter side of the body and I only painted only inside.

thanks!!
